Frequently Asked Questions
What is corrosion?
Corrosion is an inevitable consequence of using any metal to construct or reinforce a concrete structure. Bridges, Elevated walkways buildings and any other structure made of metal or reinforced with metal will eventually corrode to its failure.
What is a Corrosion Engineer
A corrosion engineer specializes in understanding and preventing the gradual deterioration of materials, such as metals and plastics, caused by chemical or electrochemical reactions with their environment. They apply principles of chemistry, materials science, and engineering to develop protective measures, like coatings and resistant materials, to ensure the safety, reliability, and longevity of structures and industrial equipment across various sectors.
What can be done to help prevent corrosion?
Maggart provides coating inspection and engineering services by NACE certified professionals to recommend and inspect the application process on all type of critical structures including Water Storage tank interiors, bridges, cooling water and process piping and many other mission critical equipment.
How much of a structure must be covered to help prevent corrosion?
For any buried structure the coating must cover 100% of the surface area for 100% of the structure life in order to be effective.
Do you work with the DOD / Military?
We have worked on almost every military base east of the Rockies.
